House passes bill to block broad Environmental Protection Agency rules - The Washington Post

House passes bill to block broad Environmental Protection Agency rules - The Washington Post: "Passage of the bill was expected in the Republican-controlled House, where lawmakers have targeted Environmental Protection Agency air rules, saying they would kill jobs and laden businesses with billions of dollars in additional costs at the worst possible time."

Fukushima -Potential Marine Environment Impacts

Fukushima accident March 26 -IAEA

Several teams are in Japan and some are on their way to further assess the situation; a food safety assessment team is on its way to provide advice and assistance on sampling and analysis.

Four reactors are still spewing radiation and are still in critical condition:

1,2,3 and 4 are still having serious problems:

Unit 1:

Light has been restored and thus have recovered some instrumentation. Fresh water is being pumped into the reactor pressure vessel (RPV) instead of sea water.

Unit 2: Seawater injection into RPV

Unit 3: Fresh water into the RPV, seawater pumped onto the spent fuel pool. Also, workers sprayed the outside of the building.

Unit 4: Concerns remain focused on the spent fuel, seawater being pumped.

RPV pumping of water suggest some damage to the cores and vessels.

Also, there has been sea water samples taken 30 km away and found high level of I-131 and Cs-137 and the radiation particles will travel with the currents and will undoubtably reach other shores.

IRSN updated simulation of the trajectory of the nuclear cloud

Northern American and Siberia have been under the radioactive plume since March 18th and by the 26 most of the northern hemisphere will be under the plume, and it looks like it won't stop until Fukushima is totally placed under a sarcophagus; but for that all fires must be extinguished and the question is when?

Instead of killing each other why don't all the countries in the Northern hemisphere cooperate to end this environmental catastrophe.

High level of Cs-137 radiation found in soil, 1,600 times above background 40 km away - NHK

High level of radiation of Cs-137 with a 1/2 life of 30 years; this will have dire consequences on agriculture in Japan for many years to come.

Plant uptake of radioceasium and mechanism -Oxford Journal

Since it has a 1/2 life of 30 years it is the radiation most absorbed by human through the food chain. Read on http://jxb.oxfordjournals.org/content/51/351/1635.full

NHK World

- High radiation detected 40 km away in the soil exceeding 400 times the 'normal' level.

"The ministry found 43,000 becquerels of radioactive iodine-131 per kilogram of soil, and 4,700 becquerels of radioactive cesium-137 per kilogram about 40 kilometers west-northwest of the plant." see NHK

Spent fuel hampers efforts at Japanese nuclear plant -NY Times

-Storage pool in number 2 reactor was spewing steam, thus workers had to go back to dousing with water.

- Power has been restored to #5 and #6 thus we must assume that the other four reactors are not.

- Workers are still pumping water onto 3 reactors.

- Cs-137 and I-131 have been found in high concentration in the ocean near the power plant and the government is testing seafood.

- NHK reported that radiation levels surpassing 400 times the normal level were detected 25 miles away.

- Some level of radiation in veggies, milk, dust and tap water.

- 9,079 dead and still 18,000 missing.

- And the Chiba refinery fire was finally put out.

- People in shelters need better sanitation.

Smoke/steam spewing out of two reactors from Fukushima -CNN

Reactor 2 and 3 are smoking it is not divulged why. "Buildings have been damaged by explosions," he said. "There has, for the most part, been no electric power. Radiation levels are elevated. It is no exaggeration to describe the work of the emergency teams as heroic." said the UN nuclear watch dog, Yukiya Amano

Even with the power restored reactors 1 and 2 were both too damaged for cooling systems to restart, and not enough power generated

The water dousing resulted in radiation found in the Pacific; also, people fro Litate, 30 miles away were asked not to drink tap water; spinach and milk and dust also found to have radioactive elements.
-UN atomic chief said the nuclear crisis in Japan remained "very serious".
- the damage could range from $122 billion to $235 billion.
