BBC News - Dounreay staff offer advice on Japan's Fukushima

BBC News - Dounreay staff offer advice on Japan's Fukushima: "Efforts to clean up a seabed off Scotland's coast could provide Japan with solutions to dealing with its earthquake-hit Fukushima nuclear plant."

Japan Nuclear Plant Is far From Stable: U.S.

Nitrogen to be injected in unit 1,2,3 to prevent new explosions. Also, even though the leak to the sea has been plugged, the amount of contaminated water which went into the ocean was 7.5 million above legal value for I-131 and 5 million times above for Cs-137 and Cs-134. This radiation will be spinning in circles in eddies and go south on the Kuroshio counter current and come back up the Kuroshio current and than there will be radiation making crossing the Pacific ocean to N. America. See an earlier post.

They finally, agree to inform the public: the reactors cores and/or fuel pools of 1,2,3,4 are damaged, and at least half of the fuel has been damaged; and thus partially melted, one of the reactor's corium has escaped the reactor vessel and is reaching underground water and freely flowing into the ocean.

ABC News is doing a good job right now covering the new development and showing the speed of the contaminated water leaking into the ocean.

For our health we need to reduce the military budget and increase the budget of the FDA and the EPA.

It is obvious that this accident is much more serious than Chernobyl and should be 3 notches above Chernobyl on the INES scale. Also, it is now urgent to get the world together; one world one humanity, to resolve this crisis immediately.

Exclusive:WANTED: U.S. workers for crippled Japan nuke plant

A US recruiter is hiring nuclear power workers to help Japan with its nuclear catastrophe which is not improving considerably. "On Thursday, TEPCO said that radiation levels in water found in tunnels under the plant was 10,000 times the normal level and radioactive iodine-131 was found in ground water near No.1 reactor of the complex"

See Reuters.

Unit 2 core has been damaged and molten fuel is out of the reactor vessel -The Guardian reports

"On Tuesday, a US engineer who helped install reactors at the plant said he believed the radioactive core in unit 2 may have melted through the bottom of its containment vessel and on to a concrete floor."

Radioactive iodine-131 at 3,355 times the legal limit had been identified in the sea about 300 yards south of the plant.

Medical researcher Robert Peter Gale suggested to dump all radioactive material in non-gas form into the ocean, he said: "To some extent that's why some nuclear power plants are built along the coast, to be in an area where the wind is blowing out to sea, and because the safest way to deposit radiation is in the ocean.
"The dilutional factor could not be better – there's no better place. If you deposit it on earth or in places where people live there is no dilutional effect. From a safety point of view the ocean is the safest place."

New Scientist reports that Fukushima releases are "nearing Chernobyl levels" - Wikipedia

On 25 March, Japan's nuclear regulator announced a likely breach and radiation leak in the containment vessel of the unit 3 reactor, the only one at the plant using MOX fuel.[7][8][9] World wide measurements of radioactive fallout released from the reactors were reported by New Scientist to be "nearing Chernobyl levels". It reported that the preparatory commission of theComprehensive Test Ban Treaty Organization had measured levels of iodine-131 at 73% and caesium-137 at 60% the levels released from the Chernobyl disaster.[10] Food grown in the area was banned. Tokyo officials declared its tap water unsafe for infants for a short time.[11][12] Plutonium has been detected in the soil around the plant in five locations [13] The soil samples were taken on 22 March 2011. [14]

Wikipedia has done a good job putting these pages together.

More on Fukushima from IRSN on the situation

Fukushima accident March 26 -IAEA

Several teams are in Japan and some are on their way to further assess the situation; a food safety assessment team is on its way to provide advice and assistance on sampling and analysis.

Four reactors are still spewing radiation and are still in critical condition:

1,2,3 and 4 are still having serious problems:

Unit 1:

Light has been restored and thus have recovered some instrumentation. Fresh water is being pumped into the reactor pressure vessel (RPV) instead of sea water.

Unit 2: Seawater injection into RPV

Unit 3: Fresh water into the RPV, seawater pumped onto the spent fuel pool. Also, workers sprayed the outside of the building.

Unit 4: Concerns remain focused on the spent fuel, seawater being pumped.

RPV pumping of water suggest some damage to the cores and vessels.

Also, there has been sea water samples taken 30 km away and found high level of I-131 and Cs-137 and the radiation particles will travel with the currents and will undoubtably reach other shores.

The latest on Fukuhima -Reuters

- 1,2,3 and 4 are volatile sometime emitting smoke or steam.
- Highly radioactive water ha been found at unit 1 and 3 raising the possibility that the cores are damaged.
- Three workers were contaminated earlier and suffered burns and 17 have been exposed to high radiation and another 12 had suffered other injuries.
- Unit 1 and 3 are getting fresh water and unit 3 soon TEPCO said. Salt water i corrosicive and leaves salt deposits which prevent the cooling.

Japan Quietly Evacuating a Wider Radius From Reactors

This suggests that there is little hope of controlling the reactors; all Japanese should be moved at least 50 miles away, but as we know Tokyo has been affected and it lays 150 miles away, thus it seems that 50 miles is not enough. Now can you imagine what woould happen if Indian Point was to have a similar accident, New York City would have to be evacuated!

If the international community does not step in the whole of Japan, which is smaller than California, will have to be abandon.

TEPCO: black smoke coming out of Fukushima reactor 3 -NHK

The Japanese government must move its citizens further away from the catastrophic area; it is obvious that Tokyo is not far enough. All pregnant women should be received by host countries right away. The further the better. The world will not be the same for the next 100 years.
