Major US supermarkets to boycott GM salmon | Environment | guardian.co.uk

Major US supermarkets to boycott GM salmon | Environment | guardian.co.uk:
• Aldi and Whole Foods among retailers refusing to sell product
• FDA decision due on whether GM salmon allowed onto market

They should take the same position on all genetically engineered foods. (my comment)

BBC News - California battle over GM labels

BBC News - California battle over GM labels: "Voters in California will decide on a proposal next month that would require the labelling of most foods made with genetically modified ingredients."

Monsanto - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Monsanto - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: "Monsanto Company (NYSE:MON) is an American multinational agricultural biotechnology corporation. It is a leading producer of the herbicide glyphosate, which it markets under the Roundup brand. Monsanto is also a leading producer of genetically engineered (GE) seed." (My selection)

Monsanto makes Glyphosate resistant corn which permits farmers to spray corn fields with Round Up (Glyphosate); why would people want to eat glyphosate?

Also, Monsanto produces corn with a BT gene which confers resistance to the Bore worm, in effect the corn produces pesticide. Why would people want to eat pesticides?

Study finds tumors in rats fed on Monsanto's GM corn | Reuters

Study finds tumors in rats fed on Monsanto's GM corn | Reuters: (Reuters) - "In a study that prompted criticism from other experts, French scientists said on Wednesday that rats fed on Monsanto's genetically modified (GM) corn or exposed to its top-selling weedkiller suffered tumors and multiple organ damage."

I have tried to eliminate corn and corn based products from my family's diet, but found this impossible; corn products and byproducts are everywhere. No corn is safe to eat because contaminated transgenic pollen fertilizes organic fields. Why would Americans want to eat insecticide producing plants? (my comment)

I buy 100% organic and I always buy products which clearly label: no GMO, no Soy, no corn.  (my comment)

Insight: Big Food girds for California GMO fight | Reuters

Insight: Big Food girds for California GMO fight | Reuters: (Reuters) - "After two decades fighting to force U.S. food companies to tell consumers when their products are made with genetically modified organisms, activists in California have mounted what is potentially their most promising offensive to date."

We have the right to refuse to eat Genetically modified food, because for example we do not want to eat BT corn because they produce insecticide and I choose not to eat chemicals from Monsanto. Alas, cows are fed BT corn and thus are themselves poisoned.

Buy products labelled 100% organic, or packages which clearly state that they do not contain GMOs, and try not to eat any corn, soybean or canola based products.

And WE MUST DEMAND LABELING.

Drought will bring about higher food prices, US warns | Environment | guardian.co.uk: "Department of agriculture says catastrophe in the corn belt will push up prices, with drought now covering two-thirds of America"

And they forget to mention that genetically engineered BT corn is being chewed by BT resistant bugs and Dekalb and Monsento and Pioneer are growing these modified crops.
