Resurrecting extinct species is a clear danger of preservation and conservatism. Will we resurrect extinct hominids such as Australopithecus erectus? Will we clone ourselves to have access to perfectly matching organs?
Extinctions have occurred throughout the history of earth and we can believe that most extinctions, prior to Homo sapiens' devastating nature, were due to natural selection and led to beneficial evolutionary trends.
Could Hominids have developed in a world crowded with carnivorous dinosaurs? And should we not expect Homo sapiens to evolve?
Genetic manipulations conserve a world, rooted in the past and could result in a less diverse gene pool. It already interferes with natural adaptation thus with evolution. In the long run genetic manipulations may result in chosen Humans' immortality. But we must clearly see that the universe will not survive the chosen, Godlike humans because they will be static, non evolving beings. (my comment)
