The US has been spending its money in raging wars and thus in its defense budget instead of infrastructures, innovation and production; therefore, it is not a surprise that China gallops ahead in the development of tomorrow's technologies. We can also assume that the US is already behind in the development of electric vehicles and solar panels.
The US can't get ahead when it spends $700 billion on defense while reducing the education budget. The youth is the vibrant, creative and energetic element of a society moving towards the future and I believe China knows that.

If TEPCO is nationalized Japan must also have all of its assets and cash on hands since this accident will be a huge expense to Japan and the Japanese people. I do believe that all nuclear power plants, all over the world should be nationalized because a government is slightly more likely to better protect the public's health. Yet, this would only be a first step, the next would be to make it illegal in the world to build new nuclear power plants; then finally, within a time frame, close the existing ones by developing viable alternatives.

- More venting of reactor 3 expected, pressure is building the steam will be highly radioactive and likely carried in the stratosphere and then dumped on the troposphere with any precipitation
- Spraying of water continues on reactor 3 storage pools, number 2 and number 4
- "At least 25 workers and five members of the Japanese Self-Defense Force have been exposed to unsafe amounts of radiation, according to the power company. At least 20 workers and four self-defense soldiers have been injured, and two workers remain missing."

About iodine 131
Some facts:
- 1/2 life of 8 days
- present in nuclear fission products and had health effects from Chernobyl
- it comprises about 3% of the total products of fission
- beta decay = notable for causing genetic mutation and death to cells it penetrates
- thought to be less dangerous in large quantities because it will kill the thyroid instead of having cancer develop later
- can been seen with gamma cameras
- decays to Beta emissions plus xenon 131
- exposure from food, water... will build up in the thyroid gland as it decays the beta emissions can damage the thyroid more dangerous in young people with adult effect has not shown to be significant
- the risk can be mitigated by taking iodine127 supplements and potassium iodide (KI) which reduces the uptake of the radioactive isotope Iodine 127 are not radioactive
- post treatment isolation: if a person is contaminated the person should not have sex for a month and women should not get pregnant for 6 months
- iodine 131 waste from decay can be eliminated through urine, sweat and semen.
- it is advisable to change and clean bedding, towels and clothing
- expose person can set up alarm at airports

- Power connected to number 2 reactor;
- Power to 3 and 4 will take days;
- 300 engineers inside the danger zone struggling to avert a Chernobyl type disaster;
- reactors 3 the one with plutonium said to stabilize by the efforts of firefighters dousing it;
- If pumps can't be restarted, encasing will be likely but will take months;
- More cases on contaminated foods, dust and water;

Progress is slow and the information is trickling down. But physicists from MIT are worried of the effect of sea water on the lead reactor vessels. Corrosion is likely to occur and depending on the type of steel at different rate.

Two Chinese charged with spreading rumors
Apparently two men have been charged with spreading rumor that radiation particles had arrived in China. And it is indeed very likely that they have. Their arrival is certain what we don't know is the severity of the radiation fall outs. If the governments were more transparent rumors would not spread. The public wants to be informed.
