Although they say there was on threat, in fact they vented and thus released radioactive isotopes, and the NRC keeps saying it is safe for the public but a recent French study shows  that children living near nuclear power plants are more likely to develop cancers.

There are no safe exposure to radiation. People's exposure is cumulative and include: X-rays, MRI, background radiation- which has been raised as a result of accidents and weapon testing and use- and releases from nuclear plant accidents - such as Chernobyl, Three Miles Island and Fukushima- have all contribute to cancer rates.
